Things They Don't Tell You: Conference Table
Who this is for
The table that was never meant for clearance
This conference table was $320. Now $220. It was backup inventory for a 12-month co-working space contract. The client operated 8 meeting rooms. If a table got damaged during daily use — warping on the surface, leg damage during cleaning — they needed an exact replacement within 48 hours.
We held 2 spares. Contract ended. Neither was required.
That's defensive procurement. Our warehouse holds reserve for ongoing obligations. Therefore, when those obligations conclude, the stock are released at recovery pricing.
Why this conference table is clearance
Defensive procurement explained
Co-working spaces run contracts with replacement SLAs aka service level agreements. When you're an operator of 8 meeting rooms, a damaged table means an idle room. That's revenue lost every hour it's out of service. The client can't wait 6 weeks for a manufacturer shipment.
The reality:
- Commercial client had a 12-month office furniture contract
- 8 meeting rooms required 8 conference tables + 2 backup units
- Client's replacement SLA: 48 hours
- Neither backup was needed during the contract
The math:
- Wholesale cost (est.): $160
- Warehouse holding (10 months @ $2/unit/mo): $20
- Total cost: $180
- Clearance price: $220
- Recovery: $40 vs. $0 if unsold
- Your savings: $100 (31% off original retail)
You're getting contract-grade durability at 31% off. This table was held for a commercial client who needed it available within 48 hours. It wasn't sitting forgotten in a corner.
What you're actually getting
Build specs
- Conference table with 25mm melamine top and 'H' shaped base
- Full-depth melamine lamination — not surface-level coating
- Stury 'H' frame rated for commercial daily use
- Dimensions suitable for 6-8 person meetings
- Edge banding on all perimeter surfaces
The melamine top resists coffee spills and pen marks. This is the same spec we held for the commercial contract.
What to check before you buy
1. Surface integrity
Run your hand across the entire tabletop surface. No warping, no visible seams, no scratches deeper than the melamine layer.
2. Leg stability
Push down firmly on each corner. The table should not wobble. If it does, the levelling feet may need adjustment — that's normal, not a defect.
3. Edge banding
Check the perimeter edge banding. It should be flush with the surface with no lifting or gaps. Edge banding protects against moisture ingress.
Singapore context
Office considerations:
- Meeting room minimum for 6-person table: 3.0 × 2.4m
- Add 600mm clearance on each side for chairs and movement
- BCA guidelines require 1.0m walkway for accessible routes
Commercial environment: This table was held for co-working use where meeting rooms run 7 days a week. Coffee, laptops, elbows on the surface daily. Melamine handles that.
